Appraise (INT)
Appraise allows you to determine the value of a given object. A character skilled in Appraise is an invaluable asset to a party, as they are capable of determining the value of items found whilst adventuring, and are even capable of determining the magical properties of an item, provided that they're skill enough to do so. A charismatic character with an excellent ..Diplomacy check means little, if they don't understand the value of the item they're bargaining for.
Common Uses
Using Appraise is usually at least a Standard Action. For a magic item, it may take a character several hours if they lack suitable magic to expedite the process (such as Detect Magic or Identify).
To identify a magical item without the assistance of spells, a character must reach a DC of 30 + the Tier of the highest level spell on the item. If the item is particularly special, such as an artifact, or is cursed, this DC may be higher, at GM discretion.
To identify mundane items, the DC varies based upon how common the item is, though such DCs very rarely exceed 30.
To bargain with an NPC in a transactional or otherwise finance-based deal, characters may roll Appraise in place of Diplomacy, though certain NPCs may react more or less favorably to this colder, more logical approach to a bargain.
