Description
You instill the target creature with a potent spirit of vengeance. The next time the subject is struck with a damage-dealing effect, from a spell, item, weapon attack, or any other valid source (at GM discretion), the source of the damaging effect immediately takes 50% of the damage inflicted to the target creature as force damage, regardless of the distance to that source (though this does not work across planes). This damage occurs even if the target creature is killed by the damaging effect.
For example, the creature given Vengeance is struck with a Disintegrate spell, and fails their Fortitude save, suffering 121 damage. The caster of the Disintegrate is immediately damaged for 60 Force damage in retaliation, which ends the duration of Vengeance. This happens regardless of whether the subject creature makes their save against the Disintegrate, and regardless of whether or not the caster of Vengeance or the subject have line of sight to the caster of the Disintegrate.
As force damage, Vengeance affects incorporeal creatures normally. The subject creature may not self-inflict damage in any way to cause vengeance to activate - it must come from an outside source.
