You glean information about a creature's combat capabilities. If the creature succeeds on its Will save, you learn nothing and the spell is wasted. Certain magic that prevents Scrying, such as Mind Blank, renders a subject immune to this spell with no saving throw required.

Upon a successful cast, you immediately learn the following about the creature:

• Type (and subtype, if applicable)
• Its total Hit Dice
• Whether or not it possesses Damage Reduction, and if so what breaches that DR, if anything
• Its caster level (may simply be “None”)
• What immunities the creature possesses, if any
• What vulnerabilities the creature possess, if any

The target of this spell knows that this spell has been cast upon it if it fails its Will save, but not necessarily where the spell originated from (for example, if the caster is Invisible, this spell does not allow the target to pinpoint the location of the caster in any way).
