Tool Descriptions
Alchemist's Lab
Base Price: 7 TU
Weight: 40 lbs.
This lab is used for making alchemical items, and provides a +1 circumstance bonus on Craft (alchemy) checks. It has no bearing on the costs related to the Craft (alchemy) skill. Without this lab, a character with the Craft (alchemy) skill is assumed to have enough tools to use the skill, but not enough to get the bonus that the lab provides.
Artisan's Tools
Base Price: 3 TU
Weight: 5 lbs.
Artisan tools are a nonspecific collection of items which aid in various Craft skills (Alchemy not included). All Artisan tools are keyed to a single, specific Craft, such as jewelry, blacksmithing, sewing, and so on. By using a set of Artisan tools, you gain a +1 equipment bonus on the corresponding Craft check. At GM discretion, certain Craft skills may be rolled at a penalty without tools.
Climber's Kit
Base Price: 4 TU
Weight: 10 lbs.
This kit is a collection of crampons, pitons, ropes, and other such tools. It grants you a +1 equipment bonus on Athletics checks to climb.
Disguise Kit
Base Price: 3 TU
Weight: 8 lbs.
This kit contains tools like makeup and fake facial hair, and provides a +1 equipment bonus on Disguise checks. A disguise kit is exhausted after 10 uses, and may be refilled for 2 TU.
Healer's Kit
Base Price: 3 TU
Weight: 1 lb.
This collection of bandages and herbs provides a +1 equipment bonus on Heal checks. A Healer's Kit is exhausted after 10 uses, and may be refilled for 2 TU.
Holy Symbol
Base Price: 1 TU (wooden), 5 TU (silver)
Weight: n/a
Holy symbols may be made of nearly any material - the listed costs above are primarily to help estimate this cost. A holy symbol may be a useful tool for the manifesting of magic by divine mages, but is not always necessary. A holy symbol provides no inherent bonuses, but a Masterworked holy symbol may provide an equipment bonus to Diplomacy checks with followers of the deity in question, or to Intimidate checks against enemies of the deity's church.
Magnifying Glass
Base Price: 7 TU
Weight: 1 lb.
A Magnifying glass is a handy tool for inspecting a given area - it provides a +1 equipment bonus on visual Perception checks, as long as you are taking 10 or 20 on the check.
Musical Instrument
Base Price: 3 TU
Weight: Varies, typically 5-10 lbs.
This is a general entry for any musical instrument which you may hold in your hands. Larger instruments, such as a piano, weigh and cost significantly more, and may vary in their availability. A musical instrument provides you a +1 equipment bonus to the relevant Perform check - for example, a violin would provide its bonus to Perform (string), but not Perform (wind).
Merchant's Scales
Base Price: 6 TU
Weight: 10 lbs.
This set of scales is made of brass, and may assist in determining the value of objects. Any handheld object of 25 lbs. or less may be placed on the scale - doing so grants you a +1 equipment bonus on Appraise checks for that object.
Thieves' Tools
Base Price: 5 TU
Weight: 2 lbs.
This kit contains lockpicks and other tools which you need to use the Disable Device skill. Without these tools, you must use improvised tools, and you take a –2 equipment penalty on Disable Device checks.
Special: You may spend one tier of Masterwork on this item to grant these tools a +4 circumstance bonus on Sleight of Hand checks to conceal them on your person. You may only do this once.
