Goods & Services

There are many things less common for adventuring but common in day to day life, trade or travel. Often Spices, Metals, Wood, and Fabric. Most of these items work as Mundane or Food Crafting parts in a pinch or for making specific items, like a silk cloak or a cheese burger. No parts check is required if your GM agrees the parts are suitable for the task- other times it will provide a bonus or just reduce the required parts check, other times it is merely thematic or for cosmetic items. A hand covered in gold rings may not provide a statistical bonus, but if you're trying to meet with a duke, it's likely better the rags and two weeks of dust from travel.


Spices

Spices are aromatic seeds, bark, roots, fruits, or flowers used to flavor, color, or preserve food. They are typically dried for storage and trade, making them valuable commodities throughout history. Beyond cooking, spices have been prized for medicinal, religious, and ceremonial purposes, often symbolizing wealth and status due to their rarity and the long trade routes required to obtain many of them.

Fabrics

Fabric (Cloth) refers to any material created by weaving, knitting, or bonding fibers together, typically from plants, animal products, or synthetic sources in modern times (but in a medieval or fantasy setting, only natural fibers are used). Cloth can vary widely in texture, weight, and durability, and its type often reflects social status, regional resources, and available technology.

Cloth is typically measured and sold by the yard or by the bolt, with finer weaves and rare fibers commanding higher prices. It is used for clothing, furnishings, tents, sails, and countless crafted goods, making it one of the most traded and valuable non-metal commodities in pre-industrial societies.

Leathers

Hides (Leather) are the skins of animals that have been treated through tanning to preserve, strengthen, and make them flexible.

Hides vary in thickness, texture, and durability depending on the animal species, age, and tanning method. They are used for clothing, armor, footwear, saddles, bags, belts, and other functional or decorative goods.

Metals

Metals and Alloys are materials that can be shaped, hammered, melted, or cast to make tools, weapons, armor, buildings, and everyday items. They range from common and soft to rare and super-strong, and some are mixed together to create alloys, which are stronger, harder, or prettier than a single metal. Metals are the raw building blocks; alloys are crafted mixes that improve strength, durability, or appearance. Together, they form the materials for nearly everything man-made, from swords and armor to gates, coins, and machinery.

Ores

Ores are naturally occurring rocks or minerals that contain metal or useful elements. They are mined from the earth and then smelted or processed to extract the metal, which can be used to make tools, weapons, armor, coins, and other goods.

Prices vary based on skill, rarity, effort, and societal norms, from cheap meals and stabling to expensive legal or magical work.
