Gnome Racial Talents

Gnomes commonly are responsible for innovations in technology and magic alike, though are rarely credited due to their eccentric and reclusive nature.

Obsession Journal

Gnomes are well-gnown to have a particular hobby which easily passes beyond a hobby or passive enjoyment, but is rather their true obsession. When you select this Talent, choose a single specific skill from the options in the requirements. You may spend TU (of any suitable kind, at GM discretion) to represent pursuit of your research. Doing so takes 10 hours of downtime investment, and a base price of 10 TU. Upon completion of this downtime, you gain a +1 bonus to that specific skill, as long as you have your journal available to reference (this bonus is instead +2 if it is a background skill).

You may repeat this process ad infinitum to expand the scope of your journal - each time you do, double the TU and downtime investment of the previous improvement to determine its cost, and increase the weight of your journal by 2 lbs (for example, the TU cost would scale as such: 10, 20, 40, 80, 160, 320, etc). In exchange, the bonus provided by it increases by +1 (or +2 if it is a background skill) each time. You may only have one journal at a time. If the journal is destroyed or otherwise discarded, you will have to begin anew.

Bewildering Koan

I have no rules - that is my rule. Do you get it? I don't.

As a Full Round Action, you may utter a baffling koan to a specific creature who can understand you. The creature in question is affected by Confusion, as the spell (no save), for 1d2 rounds. Creatures affected by this Talent may not be subjected to it again for 24 hours.

Master Tinker

  • Requirements: Gnome, Craft (Any) 5, 20 Experience

Gnomes experiment with all manner of mechanical devices, and this leads martially inclined Gnomes to a unique predisposition. Gnomes with this Talent are proficient with any equipment which they have crafted themselves, without needing the associated proficiency Talent. Having the gear worked on by anyone else renders it inapplicable for this Talent.

Return Home

You possess a unique ability to breach the wall between worlds, and return to the First World of your ancestors as if using Plane Shift. Doing so takes 10 minutes of uninterrupted chanting in a sing-song tune. You may bring other willing creatures with you, up to you Hit Die or Caster Level, whichever is greater, as long as their join hands with you throughout the process. You may only go to the Feywild with this ability, and you may return home to the Material Plane (also as if using Plane Shift) by repeating the process.

You may only perform this ritual once per month in each “direction” of travel. This Talent may be disallowed, depending upon the campaign world. Due to this, this Talent requires explicit GM permission.
