Mousefolk
The life of the Mousefolk is one spent close to the ground. With no great empires or kingdoms to call home, these feylike creatures spend the majority of their lives carving a place for themselves in the cities of the larger races, or in the untamed wilds of the world. They form tight-knit communities, where every member is expected to contribute to the success of the whole. Some Mousefolk study a trade skill to support their families, whilst others use their natural agility and sociability to make a living as a mouse-for-hire.
Physical Description
Reaching just below 2 feet tall, the Mousefolk often go unnoticed in their day to day activities. Their diminutive stature and quiet demeanor make the Mousefolk inoffensive to most, granting a certain detachment from the major conflicts and strife of larger races. Their fast metabolism and scurrying paws give the Mousefolk a slender build.
Mousefolk fur color ranges from white to tan to brown or black, with various patterns passed through heredity. Mousefolk eyes are usually red or black. They like to wear comfortable, darker colored clothes that allow for discretion.
Society
Mousefolk are a resourceful and tenacious race. Mousefolk settlements can be found in the most unlikely places one would imagine: they tend to build homes in the dark shadows and forgotten corners of the world, whether that may be a city’s slums, or the darkest depths of the oldest forests.
Mousefolk rarely seek out agricultural pursuits, preferring instead to remain as hunters and gatherers. Due to this style of life, many Mousefolk are talented at a particular trade; usually one passed down through their family.
Relations
Mousefolk tend to harbor a natural suspicion or even fear of tall races, believing their tendency to step wherever they please to be a good indicator of how they handle social affairs. Mousefolk tend to get along well with Dwarves and Gnomes, who both value and respect the work ethic of these small folk.
Mousefolk tend to have a rocky relationship with their larger Ratfolk cousins; they tend to see the Ratfolk as untrustworthy and sleazy, just as Ratfolk tend to see them as cowardly and timid. Despite this, beneficial relationships and communities have existed between the two before - it is simply not commonplace.
