Usually, a creature will be more receptive to your diplomatic efforts if they don't have a negative **starting attitude** towards you. Most of the time, if a creature is hostile towards you, diplomacy will have no effect at all, though you are more likely to succeed on such efforts when the hostile creature is more approachable and capable of understanding you (for example, you will have much better luck rolling Diplomacy against a hostile Human Pirate than a hostile Red Dragon!). You can also use Diplomacy to get a better deal when bartering with NPCs. As part of negotiating a deal, you may roll Diplomacy, and the target creature may make a contested Diplomacy or Intimidate roll against you. Depending on whether you succeed or fail, you may see changes in their offerings change up to 50% in either direction, either favorably or unfavorably towards you. You cannot use Diplomacy against a creature that does not understand you, or has an Intelligence of 3 or less. Using this skill is typically a Full Action, at minimum. ==== Table: Creature Starting Attitude Diplomacy Examples ==== {{tablelayout?rowsHeaderSource=Auto}} ^ Starting Attitude ^ Diplomacy DC ^ | Hostile | 30+ | | Unfriendly | 25 | | Indifferent | 15 | | Friendly | 10 | | Helpful | 0 |
