Overall it is used when being less then truthful to convince someone to do something or take your words as truth. It also determines how well you can hide your true appearance, just as you conceal lies as truth. The DC to do so depends upon the creature you're lying to, though usually your Con check is directly opposed by the opponent's [[.|Sense Motive]] skill. Several modifiers may apply to a Con check, depending on the situation. Below is a table which lists more common factors, though more may arise based upon GM discretion. The GM is the final arbiter on what a target may consider "believable," "impossible," "convincing proof," or any other modifier in the below table. ===== Table: Common Con Modifiers ===== {{tablelayout?rowsHeaderSource=Auto}} ^ Circumstances ^ Con Modifier ^ | The target wants to believe you | +5 | | The lie is believable | +0 | | The lie is unlikely | –5 | | The lie is far-fetched | –10 | | The lie is impossible | –20 | | The target is drunk or impaired | +5 | | You possess convincing proof | up to +10 | | The lie has little affect on them | +1 to +5 | ==== Disguise ==== Your Disguise check result determines how good the disguise is, and it is opposed by others’ Perception check results. If you don’t draw any attention to yourself, others do not get to make Perception checks. If you come to the attention of people who are suspicious (such as a guard who is watching commoners walking through a city gate), it can be assumed that such observers are taking 10 on their Perception checks. If you are impersonating a particular individual, someone who is familiar with that individual may receive a bonus of up to +20 on their Perception check. Creating a disguise requires 1d3 × 10 minutes of work. Using magic (such as the [[priority:magic:spells:tier1:disguise_self|]] spell) reduces this action to the time required to cast the spell or trigger the effect. You may take 20 on Disguise, but it takes a minimum of two hours to do so. You get only one Disguise check per use of the skill, even if several people are making Perception checks against it. The Disguise check is made secretly, so that you can’t be sure how good the result is. The effectiveness of your disguise depends in part on how much you’re attempting to change your appearance. ==== Table: Disguise DCs and Modifiers ==== {{tablelayout?rowsHeaderSource=Auto}} ^ Disguise ^ Disguise Check Modifier ^ | Minor details only | +5 | | Disguised as different gender | –2 | | Disguised as different race | –2 | | Disguised as different age category | –2 | | Disguised as different size category | -10 |
