Fey Patron

Beings from the First World, the disposition of the fey can range between mischievously capricious and whimsical, to maliciously cruel and horrifying. Much like the realm from which they hail, fey are often beings of extreme dispositions and behaviour. Several fey that have a strong interest in the happenings of the realms beyond the First World, and so a Pactmaker serves to further the interests of particularly powerful fey beings. Powerful fey such as the Eldest will occasionally take a Pactmaker as an agent of their will on the Material Plane, but other creatures of the natural world might also serve as an adequate patron of this type.

The most common pacts are formed without the character realizing that they have sealed one, usually as a result of running into and accepting the hospitality of a fey creature. Anything from eating food from the First World, making a promise as a casual formality or simply agreeing to perform some task on behalf of the fey might result in the character being placed into a pact with a fey creature. This occurs very frequently among young children, whose naivety tends to get the better of them when dealing with these outwardly jovial and mystical creatures.

The strange and alien rules and requirements of a fey patron may prove in time to be a considerable nuisance for a Pactmaker, or result in woe and suffering for much of their life. The ransacking of their food pantries, the theft of their firstborn child, every piece of clothing being coloured an unsavoury hue, or a mandatory blood sacrifice on every full moon are among many of the strange, terrifying or infuriating events that might colour the character’s life going forward.
